Teen Ministry and Missions

I am very excited for our teenagers and the opportunity they will have to meet and hear Romanian Missionary Mark Waddington and his family this Wednesday evening in Teen Church. This is Marks forth time being with us and we always have a great service. Marks primary work is ministering to teenagers who are in prison and developing teams of caring believers who will do the same. Marks wife, Violeta, works with female prisoners.

I am also very proud of our teenagers for raising nearly $200.00 in support for this precious family. In total, our teens have given over $400.00 to missions over the past three months.

A Wonderful Savior

Isaiah 9:6-7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
Isaiah – The Prophet

  1. Isaiah is the first of the Books of the Prophets – Prince of the Prophets.
  2. His service was primarily to Judah – The southern kingdom.
  3. His service covered four of the kings: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah
  4. It is the largest of these books and second largest in all the Bible – 66 chapters.
  5. Two divisions
  6. Quoted in the New Testament
  7. Prophecy concerning Jesus Christ:

a. Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

b. Isaiah 53:5-6 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

c. Isaiah 61:10-11 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Isaiah looks through the telescope of prophecy and sees 700 years and more into the future:

He sees Bethlehem and sees a crib, “…unto us a child is born.”

Luke 2:6-7 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Luke 2:10-12 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger

He sees Jerusalem and he sees a cross. ” . .unto us a Son is given.”

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

3. He sees beyond the Church age and sees a crown. ” .. and the government shall be upon His shoulders.”

Revelation 19:11-16 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

But the names of our Lord are especially meaningful.

Psalms 72:17-19 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. 18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. 19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED WONDERFUL

The Sick Woman: Luke 8:43-48 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, 44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. 45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? 46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. 48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

Can you imagine this woman’s journey in life?  A costly twelve year struggle and challenge coming to a close by a simple touch.  As she watched Jesus walked away with the crowd this woman’s thoughts simply had to be that he is wonderful.

The Lame man: John 5:1-9 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. 5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? 7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. 8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. 9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

A man lame for thirty-eight years.  He has no one to help him.  This time he did not need someone to help him into the moving water because he met the “living” water and at His word the man arose and walked.  In his heart he had to be pondering at the wonder of Jesus.

Your testimony…isn’t Jesus wonderful?

Foolishness in Proverbs

Foolishness in Proverbs

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Word usage:
Fool: 73 times in 69 verses / 42 times in Proverbs
Fools: 42 times / 20 times in Proverbs
Foolish: 52 times / 14 times in Proverbs
Foolishness: 20 times / 9 times in Proverbs
187 times in the Bible / 85 times total in Proverbs – 46%

Word meaning:
Webster:
1. One who is destitute of reason, or the common powers of understanding; an idiot.

2. In scripture, fool is often used for a wicked or depraved person; one who acts contrary to sound wisdom in his moral deportment; one who follows his own inclinations, who prefers trifling and temporary pleasures to the service of God and eternal happiness.

3. A weak christian; a godly person who has much remaining sin and unbelief.

My thoughts:
1. Foolishness is the opposite of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

2. Foolishness not only describes what a person does or how one acts – it describes what a person believes and affects how one views life and those around him.

3. Foolishness affect relationships: God, our parents, our families, and others around us.

I. Foolishness is the opposite of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 15:5 A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
Proverbs 19:3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.

2. Foolishness not only describes what a person does or how one acts – it describes what a person believes and affects how one views life and those around him.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Proverbs 10:23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
Proverbs 15:2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
Proverbs 15:14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

3. Foolishness affect relationships: God, our parents, our families, and others around us.

Proverbs 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Proverbs 17:12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
Proverbs 17:21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it vicodin prescription online to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
Proverbs 15:20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
Proverbs 17:25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

Conclusion:

1. To believe that there is no God:

Psalms 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

2. To believe the Bible is of little value, archaic (out of date), or that we know better:

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

3, To belittle the cross and the preaching of Jesus Christ:

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

4. To think we know more than the God of Heaven:

1 Corinthians 1:27-29 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

We must embrace the God of Heaven who has given so much to us: life, daily blessings, forgiveness of sins, salvation, and eternal life.

The Fear of the Lord

Study: The Book of Proverbs
Text: Proverbs 1:7
Title: The Fear of the LORD

Introduction:

  1. The Purpose of Proverbs: to gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
  2. The world ejects it because they do not want to admit that the God of the Bible exists and that are will answer to HIM!!!
  3. We acomplia rimonabant have a “Void of TRUTH” that is being filled with UNTRUTH and we are paying a price for it.
  4. We must get back to God and the TRUTH of God’s Word.
    1. Do not be ashamed of the Gospel or God’s Word.
    2. Embrace it – proclaim it.
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

The Fear of the Lord is an interesting phrase.

  1. It is found in 30 verses in our King James Bible
  2. One of those verses in the New Testament: Acts 9:31
  3. Twenty-nine verses are found in the Old Testament
    1. 1 – 1 Samuel
    2. 1 – Job
    3. 3 – Psalms
    4. 4 – 2 Chronicles
    5. 6 – Isaiah
    6. 14 – Proverbs

The Fear of the Lord is NOT just an Old Testament idea – it is a Biblical Truth that is relevant TODAY!!!

Acts 9:31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

  1. We must look at the context of this verse.
    1. Consider the conversion of Saul and the affect it had upon the Jews and the New Testament churches.
    2. This demonstration of God’s power no doubt caused this response.
  2. Even in the life of a Believer – recognizing what the Lord has done for you should result in a proper fear of the Lord.
    1. Philippians 2:9-13 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
  3. This is not the same FEAR expressed by the Lost:
    1. Revelation 6:14-17 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

What is this FEAR of the LORD?
1. Recognition of the true God – Who He Is!!!
2. Reverence for the true God – for What He is!!!
3. Respect for this true God
